Camera Tracking

  • Overview

Camera tracking using Virtual Studio allows you to get realistic looking parallax using a common hand held iPhone or Android device and a 2.5D extruded image for depth.

Setup

  • Next, press the 3D button below the image in your Virtual Studio control panel. This will generate a 3D depth map of your 2D image.  This process make take a few moments to complete.

  • Once the 3D depth map extrusion has been completed, scroll down the settings page to the Depth Extrusion option and use it to expand the depth of the image to the desired amount.
  • Now scroll to the top of the remote control and tap on Use Camera Tracking to open the VS Cam Track application. VS Cam Track supports both iOS and Android devices.

  • Note:  In some cases, you may have to open the the VS Cam Track application manually and enter the Wall ID of your LED Wall. (The Wall ID can be found inside the settings of your Virtual Studio control panel)

Once the Wall ID has been entered into the text box, simply tap Connect to Vū One.

  • At this point, a simple camera calibration process needs to be performed. Simply stand in front of your LED wall about half the width of the wall away.  For example, if you have a 20 foot wide wall, you would stand centered about 10 feet away.
  • Hold the mobile device about chest level with the camera pointed at the screen, and tap on Begin Tracking.

  • The mobile device position will now be continually transmitted to VūOS providing camera tracking capabilities via the mobile device and Virtual Studio.
  • To use this method for parallax during an actual shoot, the mobile device can be mounted to the camera being used to film.
  • If at any time the parallax starts to seem off or non responsive, simply tap on Exit Tracking and recalibrate using the procedure above.

NOTE:  A stable internet connection is required for optimal performance as the mobile device is sending thousands of data points over the network to the VūOS in real time.  Any instability in network performance may cause the tracking to be less accurate.
