SceneForge Studio Mac

A version of SceneForge Studio is now available for MacOS devices with Apple Silicon Processors.

While it does have complete feature-parity with the PC version, there are some limitations and differences that you should be aware of.

Installing SceneForge Studio Mac

SceneForge Studio Mac uses a .pkg installer that works in largely the same way as the Windows installer.  But, because MacOS applications are single, self-contained files, all the installer does is place the app in the required Applications folder.  This is to ensure that, when updating, all files are in the right place.

MacOS Performance

Because most Macs aren't as technically powerful as many Gaming PCs, it's important to keep in mind SceneForge's performance.  Take a look at this guide for tips on maximizing performance on all hardware configurations.


SceneForge Studio Mac is always being improved upon and optimized.

Keychain Permissions

When you open SceneForge Studio Mac for the first time, it will ask you for access to your Keychain.  This is just to store your SceneForge password so you don't have to log in each time.  No data gets read from your Keychain.
If you choose to, you can click "Deny", but you will have to sign in manually every time.

Storyboard PDF Exports

SceneForge uses Chromium-based browsers to handle PDF Exporting.  On Windows this isn't a problem because Windows is bundled with Microsoft Edge.  (Though you can customize which application it uses).


Because MacOS doesn't come with one included (Safari isn't Chromium-Based), SceneForge will try to find Chrome, Edge, or Opera.  If none are found, you will have to manually install and select one.

Shoot Mode Scrolling

In Shoot Mode, when you can change camera properties by scrolling, sometimes on MacOS the sensitivity is too high.  This is scaled down on Macs to accomodate.

Spout Output

Spout Output is a feature that allows you to send a live camera feed from SceneForge into other Windows applications on your machine.  Because this is not available for MacOS, Syphon is used instead.  It works in largely the same way and can be toggled in Shoot Mode identically to Spout.

Camera Render to External Window

On MacOS the external output view is not in the correct color space and looks darker than it should.  Unsure if this is a MacOS limitation or a bug.  Looking into it!

Known Issues

  • Stage Mode runs noticeably slower than any of the other application modes.  It's still fully usable but is being improved.
  • Live Camera Support is different than on Windows devices.  It is recommended to do some testing with your desired hardware, then reporting back to Support@SceneForge.app so it can be added to the confirmed device list.
